What IS May Day?

2 May

So, Living Dilbert is going to maybe try something a little different on the weekends…talking about stuff OTHER than Bad Bosses and work.  Hell, we have to deal with those jackasses five (or more) days a week, right?  We are all defined by MUCH more than the work days we suffer through, right?

In talking to various friends, May Day has many different interpretations.  One is the old-fashioned American mid-west “May Day” where you give your sweetheart some bullshit basket of candy or something.   Ok, just dozed off…sorry.   Another, more important version of May Day is International Workers’ Day.  What’s this going on in Arizona?   I thought that the United States is a nation of immigrants.   Let me just say Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria.  Sound familiar?  Do you think the native Americans asked them for their documents?  I thought you couldn’t pull someone over just because of the color of their skin??  Haven’t major civil rights lawsuits been filed for just that reason?   Racial profiling is never a good thing and I don’t what bullshit reason you pull out of your ass for it.  What’s next?  Yellow stars and pink triangles sewn on our coats?

Tomorrow, as we return to work I will invoke a more classic use of May Day…as in “May Day, May Day….help get us out of here….!!”   Uck, return to work on Mondays…my least favorite.  Don’t you wish someone would come rescue us all??

I agree it is a great idea to mix up the blog. We can’t complain about work every day, can we? Actually, I can, but I try hard not to. 🙂

I was only superficially aware that May 1st was also known as “May Day” and come to find out that “May Day” has some other meanings, too. Who knew?

We humans sure like to personalize all 365 days of the year. I dub May 2nd henceforth to be known as “Days Of The Year Over-Personalization Day.” I’m taking the rest of the day off to celebrate!

Hmmmm…didn’t get a bullshit basket on May Day but do consider what is happening in AZ a big, bad basket of bullshit.
