In Their Honor

31 May

Memorial Day commemorates all the U.S. men and women who have died while in military service (and dates back to the Civil War).   No matter your political views or thoughts on the necessity of military service, these incredible human beings gave their lives..their lives in order to protect our freedom and country.  In their honor…

Chance has never yet satisfied the hope of a suffering people. Action, self-reliance, the vision of self and the future have been the only means by which the oppressed have seen and realized the light of their own freedom. Marcus Garvey

For love of country they accepted death… -James A. Garfield

Thank you for all you have done for us.

Thanks for sharing. Memorial day is a day commemorating those lives lost in battle. I knew someone who died in Iraq. You can visit http://www.sgtjon.com to view the former soldier. I didn’t know him personally but I worked with his father who spoke of his son dearly. I now have two friends being trained in the Army. They do it to serve, unwillingly and unselfishly. Thanks again for sharing and thank you for taking time to mention those serving in battle. We truly need to show them more appreciation. (BTW: I’m Jamaican, so thanks also for adding the Marcus Garvey comment. He was a profound leader, which is one of the reasons he became one of Jamaica’s national heroes.) Best to you.

Happy Memorial Day to you, too. We visited a national cemetery yesterday. A trip like that and seeing the grieving family members around their loved one’s marker tends to put a lot of things in perspective.

    Those are nice quotes.

It’s true… No matter what you believe politically, it’s impossible not to see these men and women as heroes.

Fantastic piece LD. Even though I don’t comment much, I always read and admire your blog.

In Australia our memorial day is called ANZAC day. Lest we forget.
